Apple’s holding a “Welcome Home” event next week to introduce its new smart home hub — at least, that’s what’s rumored — but it looks like a big break from tradition.
There’ll be no keynote presentation in Cupertino. Instead, Apple invited select media, YouTubers and influencers to a hands-on “Apple Experience” in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood. It starts at 9 a.m. Eastern, which is the ungodly hour of 6 a.m. here on the West Coast.
It’s unclear if there will be streaming video from the event or even a canned video presentation. Presumably there will at least be a press release (or releases).
It’s all a bit more mysterious than usual, and kinda vague for a major new product that’ll be at the heart of potentially a big new platform for Apple.
But here’s what we do know. I’m pretty excited to see what Apple’s got up its sleeve. Recent rumors point to something big.
Also in today’s newsletter:
The something big is bolstered by the latest rumor that, in addition to LG Electronics, Apple’s working with other second-party manufacturers on smart home devices. Plus, it sounds like Apple is rethinking the whole experience.
The iPhone Air is already impossibly thin. The next version might be thinner yet.
🔥 DEAL OF THE DAY: This unique power strip is interesting. It’s modular, allowing you to add a range of outlet types and place them where you want. It’s pricey for a power strip, but an 18% discount reduces the sting a little. #affiliate

One more thing ...
Funny enough, 20 years after we started Apple, there was nobody building computers for people again. You know? They were trying to sell consumers last year's corporate computers. We said, “Well, these are our roots. This is why we're here. The world doesn't need another Dell or Compaq. They need an Apple.”
