Be wary of Apple's betas

We have sage advice you'll likely ignore.

Every year, I swear to myself that I won’t install Apple’s latest OS betas as soon as they are released.

But the minute they drop, I install them. It’s almost always a bad idea.

I’ve been severely burned in the past: The betas are often unstable and full of bugs. They drain batteries and sometimes fail at the most basic tasks.

My Apple Watch, for example, currently running the new watchOS 10 beta, randomly quits workouts and fails to unlock after typing in my code. It’s almost unusable!

But the new OS is just too exciting! All those great new features!

So if you’re tempted by the new public betas, please first read our post about being cautious, and then cavalierly ignore it!

One more thing ...

I’m about fifty-fifty on believing in God. For most of my life, I’ve felt that there must be more to our existence than meets the eye…. I like to think that something survives after you die. It’s strange to think that you accumulate all this experience, and maybe a little wisdom, and it just goes away. So I really want to believe that something survives, that maybe your consciousness endures. But on the other hand, perhaps it’s like an on-off switch. Click! And you’re gone. Maybe that’s why I never liked to put on-off switches on Apple devices.
