Vision Pro is not a dud!
2025 is poised to bring important developments to Apple's headset.
When Steve Jobs introduced the first Macintosh, some derided it as a “Fisher-Price computer.”
When Jobs first showed off the iPod, doubters dismissed it as an expensive toy.
Some predicted the first iPhone would flop because it didn’t come with a hardware keyboard.
Almost all of Apple’s first-generation products have been greeted by extreme skepticism, bordering on outright dismissal.
And the same is true for Apple Vision Pro. The expensive headset is clearly not a mass-market hit, but that’s not to say it’s not already been hugely successful.
Just look at what Meta is doing with its Quest platform, and the new Samsung and Google headset partnership: They’re already shamelessly ripping off Vision Pro.
Vision Pro is actually a genius move by Tim Cook. This first version is for creators and developers, who will build the apps and experiences necessary to properly launch a consumer version sometime in the future.
It’s a seed. And there are some exciting developments coming next year. Here’s what’s expected for Vision Pro in 2025.
Also in today’s newsletter:
The iPhone is already turning into a camera with a phone attached, and even bigger photographic upgrades are in store.
Here’s one for the kids: How to track Santa on your Apple devices.
It’s too late for Xmas, but this great sale on a four-pack of AirTags is still alive. It’s the lowest price ever.
One of today’s featured X posts claims Apple silicon succeeded largely because of a bureaucratic blunder by Intel. Don’t know if it’s true, but it is interesting!
Happy holidays all. Hope everyone has a great day or two.

I worked on the M series while at Apple.
The main advantage that stuck out to me was actually that they were able to acquire dozens of top Intel engineers 5-10 years ago as Intel started struggling and making poor decisions.

One more thing ...
At Apple, people are putting in 18-hour days. We attract a different type of person — a person who doesn't want to wait five or 10 years to have someone take a giant risk on him or her. Someone who really wants to get in a little over his head and make a little dent in the universe. We are aware that we are doing something significant. We're here at the beginning of it and we're able to shape how it goes. Everyone here has the sense that right now is one of those moments when we are influencing the future.
