Vision Pro hits stores Feb. 2

Preorders for Apple's mixed-reality headset start January 19.

On Monday, Tim Cook declared that the era of spatial computing has arrived.

Apple’s Vision Pro headset will go on sale on February 2, with preorders starting on Friday, January 19.

The timing of it all is auspicious. This is the week of CES, the monster consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, where the most exciting thing so far is a transparent, hologram-like TV screen. Plus, Vision Pro preorders start on the same day that the Apple Lisa was launched in 1983. (The Lisa was the precursor to the Mac, the computer that changed everything.)

Cook conveniently ignores Meta’s Quest headsets and several other AR devices. But so far, no AR headset has set the world on fire.

I’m still skeptical that the Vision Pro will break through. But let’s wait until early next month, when we can all see for ourselves.

Take the poll below — will you be ordering a Vision Pro?

One more thing ...

The mark of an innovative company is not only that it comes up with new ideas first, but also that it knows how to leapfrog when it finds itself behind.
