Apple this morning briefly surpassed Nvidia as the world’s most valuable company, with a market cap of a mere $5.1 trillion (chump change!)
The stock rose to a record $349.55 as the iPhone Duo hit store shelves and crowds lined up to snag the hot handset.
It’s all reminiscent of circa 2011, when throngs camped outside Apple’s retail outlets to grab the latest iPhone.
The crowds aren’t quite as big — but then again, Apple didn’t have a well-oiled preorder system in place back then. There are lots and lots of people who want the Duo on day one.
I have a preorder that’s due for delivery in early December, and I thought about going to downtown San Francisco to take my chances at the flagship Apple Union Square store. But after looking at the socials and seeing the lines all over, I knew it’d be a waste of time.
So now I'm sitting here scanning the socials, seeing all the people showing off their brand-new iPhone Duos, and feeling a bit left out.
It's gonna be a long wait till December, but nothing's going to stop me from obsessively checking stock at my local Apple Stores between now and then, just in case.
