Siri needs ChatGPT-like smarts

Chatty AIs are running rings around Siri

Truly smart AI finally seems to be taking off.

Microsoft just integrated ChatGPT into its Bing search engine (give it a try right here).

And Google — which is responsible for a lot of recent AI breakthroughs — just unveiled a rival conversational AI called Bard.

But what’s Apple up to? Where’s Apple’s chatty AI?

Apple builds a lot of AI into its software. AI powers Face ID’s ability to recognize you even if you grow a beard. And it powers the Photos app’s capacity to recognize your pets in your pix.

But why is Siri still so dumb? Siri debuted in 2011. And while it’s good for a limited set of commands, Siri doesn’t have anything like the smarts of ChatGPT, which can hold a reasonably intelligent conversation.

With the release of smart chatty AIs like ChatGPT and Bard, it’s obvious that Apple needs to step up its AI game.

One more thing...

“Some people want to share more data than other people do. Ask them! Ask them every time. Make them tell you to stop asking them if they get tired of you asking them. Let them know precisely what you're gonna do with their data.”

— Steve Jobs, D8 conference, 2010.

If you use Siri, how would you rate its smarts?
