Was Santa good to you this year?

Got a new Apple Watch, or an iPad?

Good for you! Time to fire it up.

Apple makes it very easy to set up a new device, especially with Setup Assistants that guide you step-by-step through the process.

But there are always choices to be made — and some of them can be thorny.

One of the biggest thorny choices is also one of the first: Do you set up your new device as new, or from a backup? And if you choose from a backup, should you do it from iCloud, or device-to-device?

Choose wrong, and you might get stuck in data-migration hell all day when instead you should be enjoying your new device.

Whether you got a new Mac, iPad, iPhone, or Apple Watch, we have a helpful guide to help you set it up. Sorry, we don’t have one for Vision Pro. If Santa dropped a headset under your tree, your on your own!

Happy Holidays everyone!
