Starting next Tuesday, Apple is holding a special invite-only event in Los Angeles to celebrate the official launch of Creator Studio — the pro app bundle that includes Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro and more.

We know this because a “Creatorpreneur” named Petr Mára posted his invite on Instagram, which set off a storm.

Why? Because it’s also the perfect and most likely time for Apple to launch the widely rumored new MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

But there are a couple of weird things going on.

One is that it doesn’t appear that any other creatorpreneurs or other Apple influencers have been invited. If iJustine and her ilk have been invited, they’re being quiet about it, and the regular tech press is keeping mum, too.

Of course, Apple may have slapped an NDA or embargo on the event.

Or — and I’m being a bit conspiratorial here — maybe Apple doesn’t want the press attending the event at all!

The new M5 MacBooks, which I’m sure will be spectacular, are going to be the last gasp for the current MacBook Pro line. They’ll likely be replaced in the fall with brand-new machines that sport a radical new design, possibly including touchscreen models.

The Apple press is likely to be aware of this, whereas social media influencers aren’t usually celebrated for their critical faculties!

Or perhaps I’m reading way too much into this, and Apple is simply inviting the kind of user that might be interested in a pro app bundle — you know, creatorpreneurs and the like.

  • This is pretty fascinating, and something I had no idea about: As Snowmageddon promises to grind the United States to a halt this weekend, your iPhone’s Weather app might be giving wildly inconsistent snowfall predictions. But it’s not the app’s fault! Here’s the why behind fluctuating forecasts.

  • We hands-on review a new stylus that’s compatible not just with iPad but iPhone, too. It’s a great stylus for regular users and packs some clever features.

One more thing ...

People say sometimes, “You work in the fastest-moving industry in the world.” I don't feel that way. I think I work in one of the slowest. It seems to take forever to get anything done. All of the graphical-user interface stuff that we did with the Macintosh was pioneered at Xerox PARC [the company's legendary Palo Alto Research Center] and with Doug Engelbart at SRI [a future-oriented think tank at Stanford] in the mid-'70s. And here we are, just about the mid-'90s, and it's kind of commonplace now. But it's about a 10-to-20-year lag. That's a long time.
