I took the crusty case off my iPhone 17 Pro the other day for the first time in a while and was pleasantly surprised to find it’s silver!

I’d forgotten! I thought it was black (which isn’t actually a thing)!

Now I can smugly congratulate myself every time I see a post praising silver as the best color.

Despite the brouhaha about cosmic orange, I don’t see it that frequently in the wild. Actually, thanks to cases, it’s hard to clock any iPhone color in the wild!

Take a look at the latest set of iPhone 18 Pro dummies, which purport to show the upcoming lineup’s true colors.

Amusingly, the main photo couldn’t be worse. It’s poorly lit and the one handset everyone’s curious about — the dark cherry one — is largely obscured by a shadow.

Nonetheless, you get a good idea of the deep, moody shade that’s likely going to be this year’s standout color.

What do you think? Do you like it? Weigh in on this weighty matter in today’s poll below.

  • I couldn’t be more excited about the new smarter Siri coming at WWDC next month. And this latest report that Apple’s trying hard to make AI as local as possible is pretty heartening.

  • I’ve seen lots of praise for Apple’s nano-texture glass but never seriously considered it for myself. However, after reading this informative roundup that delves into the pros and cons, I might seriously think about it next time.

  • 🔥 DEAL OF THE DAY: This 8-in-1 USB-C hub from Anker looks like the ultimate portable dock for MacBook users. It does it all: Dual monitor support, tons of ports, card readers, even Ethernet, and it’s down to its Black Friday low. #affiliate

  • Special guest Christina Warren (@film_girl) joined us on the Cult of Mac podcast again this week. We talked about the surprisingly detailed iOS 27 renders that show how the new Siri will look, a much-needed AirPods upgrade coming soon, and the ferociously mocked Ferrari Luce electric car that Jony Ive designed. (You can see Christina’s blue headphones, color-matched to the Luce, in the video version of the podcast.)

  • I was pretty amused to learn how, exactly, the first Newton MessagePad let users order pizza directly from the device.

  • Ever the voyeur, I like perusing other people’s setups, even if the pictures are heavily sanitized and idealized. Gamer gear is always interesting because it’s always high-end and well-considered.

One more thing ...

People talk a lot about brands. To me, brands are one simple thing, and that is trust. Your customers trust you. We don't spend a lot of time talking about “the brand.” We spend a lot of time talking about how do we make the best products in the world.
