Mark your calendars
It's official: Apple's fall event happens September 9.
I love reading the tea leaves in Apple’s event invitations for potential clues about the products to be unveiled.
The “Awe dropping” invitation that went out Tuesday morning , for example, hints at how “jaw-dropping(ly)” thin and light the new iPhone 17 Air will be.
And the orange and light blue in the Apple logo reference the new orange and light-blue colorways of the Pro and Air models.
The graphic looks like it’s a thermal image, suggesting the new vapor chamber cooling system coming to the iPhone 17 lineup. Or it could hint at a new blood pressure monitoring sensor in upcoming Apple Watch models.
It’s all nonsense, of course, but it’s a fun thing to do — and sometimes there’s a slim connection between the invite and the event. Sometimes!
(Also, the invite contains a cool Easter egg .)
Also in today’s newsletter:
Apple just updated its Apple Music migration tool, which had been in limited beta, making it easy to transfer music from competing services like Spotify. It looks pretty comprehensive and useful .
xMEMS Labs is about to unveil new ultrathin microspeakers and active cooling “fan on a chip” tech that might prove key to upcoming smart glasses .
This nicely made iPad stylus is a good but inexpensive alternative to the pricey Apple Pencil — and it’s on sale now for even less .
Today’s the day in Apple history when Steve Jobs and Bill Gates sat down to talk about the “future of the PC.” Hilariously, Jobs took a bunch of rude potshots at his rival, including calling Microsoft an “orifice.”

A message from Pacaso
Learn from this investor’s $100m mistake
In 2010, a Grammy-winning artist passed on investing $200K in an emerging real estate disruptor. That stake could be worth $100+ million today.
One year later, another real estate disruptor, Zillow, went public. This time, everyday investors had regrets, missing pre-IPO gains.
Now, a new real estate innovator, Pacaso – founded by a former Zillow exec – is disrupting a $1.3T market. And unlike the others, you can invest in Pacaso as a private company.
Pacaso’s co-ownership model has generated $1B+ in luxury home sales and service fees, earned $110M+ in gross profits to date, and received backing from the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
Paid advertisement for Pacaso’s Regulation A offering. Read the offering circular at invest.pacaso.com. Reserving a ticker symbol is not a guarantee that the company will go public. Listing on the NASDAQ is subject to approvals.

I love how Apple always makes their invitations so original. This year’s is even interactive — especially cool on Vision Pro.

One more thing ...
When you first start off trying to solve a problem, the first solutions you come up with are very complex, and most people stop there. But if you keep going, and live with the problem and peel more layers of the onion off, you can oftentimes arrive at some very elegant and simple solutions. Most people just don't put in the time or energy to get there. We believe that customers are smart, and want objects which are well thought through.
