Liquid Glass
Not just a pretty new face.
Well, I know how I’m spending my afternoon: loading up Apple’s likely buggy and unstable betas on ALL MY PRIMARY DEVICES!
Yes, I know this is foolish, but I just can’t resist that Liquid Glass.
Apple’s sweeping new design language — the first time the company has tried to unify interfaces across all its devices — looks beautiful and fun.
But perhaps more important, the dynamic, flowing UI looks like it simplifies many interactions and controls. It’s not just a pretty new face.
Also in today’s newsletter:
The new iOS — now rebranded iOS 26, like all Apple’s platforms — looks very slick, with a ton of enhancements, from Visual Intelligence expanding to everything on screen to spam screening in Messages. There’s a lot of new stuff to love.
I was pretty amused by the keynote segment devoted to the new iPadOS 26, which is now even more strongly reminiscent of macOS than ever. Finally, after all these years, Apple’s given up and your iPad is now basically a Mac. The changes do look great, though.
Not to be left out, macOS 26, watchOS 26 and tvOS 26 all get the Liquid Glass treatment. macOS Tahoe gets a great new Spotlight search that basically sherlocks Raycast and Alfred. In tvOS 26, I’m most excited about some new and mesmeric ariel screensavers. visionOS 26 is really going hands-free with Look to Scroll. watchOS gets a new AI workout buddy, and finally, after 10 years, the Notes app.
I’ve been digitally hoarding my Messages archive for years, and it’s ballooned into an unwieldy, multigigabyte beast. Looks like it’s time for me to get TouchCopy from our friends at Wide Angle Software and shift my Messages archive onto my computer.
Woah, I’m all over this: Live Call Screening is coming to the new Phone app. Even more reasons to never answer the phone.
Over the weekend, Apple debuted a trailer for a new wildfire drama movie coming to Apple TV+ this fall. The Lost Bus has a great cast and production crew, and looks viscerally terrifying.
Today’s the day in Apple history that Mac “switcher” and suspected stoner Ellen Feiss achieved internet notoriety.

One more thing ...
Funny enough, 20 years after we started Apple, there was nobody building computers for people again. You know? They were trying to sell consumers last year's corporate computers. We said, “Well, these are our roots. This is why we're here. The world doesn't need another Dell or Compaq. They need an Apple.
