How to keep Wordle free forever
Wordle has taken over the world.
I play it daily, and so do all the members of my family, kids included. My Twitter feed is one long stream of humblebrag Wordle scores.
But with the purchase of the daily puzzle by The New York Times, many are worried the beloved game will soon disappear behind a paywall.
Fear not! It's actually super-easy to save a local version of the game on your Mac, iPad or iPhone, and play it in perpetuity, paywall or no. See our how-to for details.

Wordle, the simple yet fun daily word game that became a craze in recent months, was acquired this week by The New York Times. Naturally, this led fans to worry that the game might change — or that we might have to pay for it. But there is one way you can ensure that never happens. It’s actually surprisingly easy to download Wordle — the entire game — and save it to your iPhone, iPad or Mac so you can continue playing it in its current form.

It’s that time of year again. No, not the dead of winter. Well, yes, actually — for many it’s the dead of winter. But it’s not only that. But, lucky for you, this year the Cult of Mac Store has a nice discount on what could be just the thing: the Goldenerre Red Heart Healthy Set for the Apple Watch. And 10% of sales goes to charity!

Who doesn’t love good optical illusions? And they’re especially cool when they result from an unexpected action that works as well as the expected action. Today’s featured computer setup surprised us with a floating display. Thing is, though, the screen is not mounted on the wall. And it’s not levitating, either.

"Our family just bought a new washing machine and dryer. We didn't have a very good one so we spent a little time looking at them.... We spent some time in our family talking about what's the trade-off we want to make. We ended up talking a lot about design, but also about the values of our family. Did we care most about getting our wash done in an hour versus an hour and a half? Or did we care most about our clothes feeling really soft and lasting longer? Did we care about using a quarter of the water? We spent about two weeks talking about this every night at the dinner table. We'd get around to that old washer-dryer discussion. And the talk was about design." -- Steve Jobs
