iPhone 17 Pro's new color

Upcoming handset looks set to debut a new color option

Back in the early days of the automobile industry, Henry Ford famously you said can get a Model T in any color, as long as it’s black (and that’s because it was fastest-drying paint on Ford’s fast-moving assembly line).

But in the early 20th century, General Motors took a different tack. The company developed a line of fast-drying paints in a range of colors, bringing all-important “eye appeal” to its vehicles (in the words of GM’s CEO at the time, Alfred P. Sloan Jr.).

By regularly offering new vehicles in different colors, General Motors overtook Ford as the dominant car company and remained in that position for more than 70 years. It proved how important color is to consumers, and it forms a big part of Apple’s strategy to this day.

Every year, Apple offers the iPhone in new colors — and this year is no different. Apple will likely debut a brand new color for the iPhone 17 Pro — and the details are here.

One more thing ...

Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It's not about money. It's about the people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it.
