iPhone 17 colors

New lineup will expand color options to 9 choices

The current iPhone 16 in “ultramarine” is one of the nicest-looking iPhones Apple has ever released.

The ocean-blue iPhone has a camera bump with a darker blue, and the contrast makes this handset really good-looking.

Apple’s color scheme for iPhone has long followed the same pattern: Muted, understated colors for the pro iPhones, and bolder, poppier colors for the regular handsets.

This differentiation drives some people crazy. Cult of Mac managing editor Lewis Wallace still hasn’t gotten over buying not one, but two iPhone 14 Pros in “deep purple.” He thought he’d get a trippy, bold purple worthy of Prince, but instead Lewis and his wife got phones colored a dull, muddy grey.

A new leak out of Apple’s supply chain suggests the upcoming iPhone lineup will increase the number of color choices available for iPhone lineup.

It looks like the new handsets (including a new Air model, but excluding the Pro models) will be available in nine colors — and ultramarine (or at least blue) will be one of them!

One more thing ...

It's not about pop culture, and it's not about fooling people, and it's not about convincing people that they want something they don't. We figure out what we want.
