Immersive Video ahoy!
After a drought, lots more Immersive Video is coming soon
Apple’s immersive videos are a superb showcase for its Vision Pro headset.
But the big complaint is that there aren’t enough of them. After debuting the headset with a handful of immersive videos, Apple hasn’t released many new ones, until this week with Submerged, a scripted short about a WWII submarine under attack.
But that’s about to change.
I’m stoked. Immersive videos are really are quite unforgettable.
One immersive video that’s available now shows highliner Faith Dickey walking a tightrope 3,000 feet above a Norwegian fjord.
The first shot is a closeup of her face, and it’s a strange, unsettling experience to have her face so close yours. It’s extremely uncomfortable. It made me blush, and I wanted to turn my own face away and back off.
That’s nothing compared to the vertiginous shots of her walking the tightrope, which made me involuntarily scream out loud and then close my eyes because I was getting dizzy and nauseous. I hate heights, so the experience wasn’t fun exactly, but it’s certainly stayed with me.
So I’m really looking forward to the raft of immersive content that’s coming out between now and the end of the year. Especially the Adventure series, which follows athletes attempting various challenges, like record-breaking dives beneath frozen ice. It sounds epic.

Although it was supposed to end yesterday, Amazon’s Prime Day deals event is still alive. Ongoing deals include a M1 Mac mini for about $400 (the price has been bouncing around that mark all morning), the new Beats Pill speaker for $100, or the iPad mini 6 for $349.
The company Rolling Square makes a great series of charging accessories with multiple, interchangeable tips. Think USB-C, USB-A and Lightning. It’s latest 4-in-1 keychain charger is extra small, but can handle 240W of power and will charge the iPhone 16 at 27W. I have an older version, and it’s proven very handy.
If you’re looking for a cheap VPN deal, Norton is offering it’s Secure VPN for just $9 for a year. The catch is that it’s only for one device, but it’s still dirt cheap for a trusted, private VPN.
The new Apple Sports app is a great way to follow major league sports. Here’s how to set it up.
Today is the day in Apple history that Cupertino shipped the Color Classic II, which was perhaps the ideal realization of the original Mac.

[Joking about his $1 salary] I make 50 cents for showing up and the other 50 cents is based on performance.
