Here's an AI surprise

You won't have to use Apple's new AI features.

Next week’s WWDC will be all about artificial intelligence, but here’s a surprise: Apple reportedly will give users the opportunity to opt out of new AI features built into its operating systems.

That includes a new chatbot powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT technology, which, apparently, is far ahead of Apple’s internal efforts. Using the chatbot, and other new AI-powered features, reportedly will be opt-in.

Letting users take a pass on ChatGPT-powered features might help insulate Cupertino from anything that goes wrong. Plus, adding a kill switch for the AI stuff that’s handled by ChatGPT (and/or other potential partners like Google) would square with Apple’s focus on privacy.

In the end, how many Apple users will turn on (or turn off) a host of advanced features baked deep into their devices’ operating systems? We’ll find out soon enough.

WWDC24 sure is going to be interesting.

One more thing ...

Don't be a career. The enemy of most dreams and intuitions, and one of the most dangerous and stifling concepts ever invented by humans, is the "Career." … Make what you love your work. The journey is the reward. People think that you've made it when you've gotten to the end of the rainbow and got the pot of gold. But they're wrong. The reward is in the crossing the rainbow. That's easy for me to say — I got the pot of gold (literally). But if you get to the pot of gold, you already know that that's not the reward, and you go looking for another rainbow to cross.
