Happy Steve Jobs Day!

It's true: October 16 is officially Steve Jobs Day.

There’s Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and … Steve Jobs Day?

Yes, it’s true: Today — October 16 — is officially Steve Jobs Day.

In California, anyway.

Shortly after Steve Jobs died, then-California Governor Jerry Brown named October 16 as the official day of the Apple co-founder.

So put on some Bob Dylan, rip the license plate off your car, and wear your best black turtleneck in tribute to one of tech’s greatest visionaries.

  • The Vision Pro hasn’t taken off with consumers, but there’s one small set of very important fans who love wearing the headset for work — and one day you might be thankful they do.

  • Apple was widely tipped to hold a special product event this month, but here are the reasons it might not happen after all.

  • I have this exact same portable CarPlay screen, and it’s great. It’s easy to plug in, folds down to fit in a glove box, and the screen is bright and responsive. I love it — and it’s on sale.

  • Tim Cook’s gotta love surveys like this. Snag ‘em young, and never let go.

  • Today’s the day in Apple history that hell froze over: Cupertino shockingly made an app for Windows — and it was a big, big hit.

  • Sonos is in deep doo-doo right now for screwing up it’s app, but its new soundbar looks fascinating. It’s built around a new driver design that’s potentially a big deal: See the X thread below for the backstory.

One more thing ...

What drove me? I think most creative people want to express appreciation for being able to take advantage of the work that’s been done by others before us. I didn’t invent the language or mathematics I use. I make little of my own food, none of my own clothes. Everything I do depends on other members of our species and the shoulders that we stand on. And a lot of us want to contribute something back to our species and to add something to the flow. It’s about trying to express something in the only way that most of us know how—because we can’t write Bob Dylan songs or Tom Stoppard plays. We try to use the talents we do have to express our deep feelings, to show our appreciation of all the contributions that came before us, and to add something to that flow. That’s what has driven me.

— Steve Jobs, 2011.
