Apple sends May 7 event invites!

On May 7, Apple will broadcast a product-launch event with the theme “Let Loose.”

For the first time that I can recall, after decades and decades of covering Apple, the invite includes an image of an Apple product — an Apple Pencil.

Not only is a new Apple Pencil rumored to be in the offing, but the artwork is a strong hint that the event will be about the iPad. Actually, it’s not a hint. It’s a declaration.

This is most unusual. Apple likes to keep a veil of secrecy, even if the Apple rumor mill already knows basically everything about the event and the products to be revealed.

Also surprising is why Apple is holding an event at all for what might usually be a press release. Something special must be in the offing.

Also in today’s newsletter:

  • Apple’s leather-replacement material, FineWoven, is dead! Wait, maybe it’s not.

  • Oh man, I love these things.

  • If you love classic Nintendo games, check out Delta, the new Nintendo emulator that’s free on the App Store. But you’ll need game ROMs. Here’s how to use it.

  • I love Sonos speakers, but I rarely see them on sale — until now.

One more thing ...

I think the things you most regret in life are things you didn't do. What you really regret was never asking that girl to dance. In business, if I knew earlier what I know now, I'd have probably done some things a lot better than I did, but I also would've probably done some other things a lot worse. But so what? It's more important to be engaged in the present.
