Hands on with new Stage Manager

Significant improvements in iPadOS 17

I may well be alone in this, but i really like Apple’s new Stage Manager multitasking system.

Stage Manager is hated by a lot of people, mostly because app windows in Stage Manager don’t behave the way they traditionally have done on the Mac.

Well, duh! It’s a new system, and some people don’t like the fact that it’s, well, new and different.

I’ve been using Stage Manager in macOS Sonoma, and I really like it. It’s a clean and easy way to manage a lot of open windows.

But it’s really designed for iPad, and it’s gotten more tweaks and improvements in the latest iPadOS beta.

Our resident Stage Manager fan, writer Ed Hardy — the only other person on the planet who likes Stage Manager besides me — put it through its paces and finds there’s a lot to like. Here’s his hands-on report.

One more thing ...

I was voluntarily poor when I was in college and India, and I lived a pretty simple life when I was working. So I went from fairly poor, which was wonderful because I didn't have to worry about money, to being incredibly rich, when i also didn't have to worry about money.
