'The Greatest Beer Run Ever' ... πŸ‘ or πŸ‘Ž or 🍻?

New Apple TV+ movie The Greatest Beer Run Ever hooked me with its title alone. Based on a true story about a guy who delivered some brewskis to U.S. soldiers fighting in the Vietnam War, it sounds like an upbeat comedy about a minor hero.

It's directed by Peter Farrelly, one-half of the team that graced the world with Dumb and Dumber and There's Something About Mary. (I'll never forget that "we got a bleeder!" scene.)

Farrelly moved on from that sort of gross-out comedy, going on to win the Best Picture Oscar for Green Book. So I'm looking forward to The Greatest Beer Run Ever, even if Cult of Mac reviewer Scout Tafoya didn't enjoy it. Scout didn't care much for the movie's light touch when it comes to the politics of war and America's place on the world stage.

The thing is, sometimes I don't want a movie that hits me over the head with depressing facts. Sometimes I just want an entertaining diversion that gets my mind off the current state of affairs in the real world.

That and a cold beer sound like a perfect Friday night to me.

Cheers!

With new movie The Greatest Beer Run Ever, Apple TV+ seems anxious to pick up some easy awards from industry insiders who prefer heartwarming tales of friendship and broad gestures over strong ideas and nuance.

Reports that Apple is making fewer iPhone 14 units than its predecessor are true ... but that’s not the whole story.

The new feature blocks loud noises above the 85 dB threshold to protect the wearer’s hearing. iPhone users running iOS 16.1 beta 3 and the latest AirPods Pro beta firmware spotted the Adaptive Transparency toggle in the Settings app.

No one wants to spend $250 on a set of outstanding noise-canceling earbuds β€” let’s say, second-generation AirPods Pro β€” only to find they don’t fit well, even with a choice of ear tip sizes. But unfortunately, it can happen. It happened to me, actually. But once I explored after-market ear tips (the part that goes into your ear canal), I quickly solved the problem at minimal expense.

Raymond and Ray is a film about two half-brothers who reunite at the funeral of their terrible father. Watch the first trailer for the dark comedy, which hits theaters (and Apple TV+) in October.

Apple TV+ also announced the launch dates for new seasons of Slow Horses and Little America.

On September 30, 2002, Apple introduced iSync, a new tool that let Mac users sync their address books and calendars with their mobile devices. It might not seem like much today, but this was huge.

"Good engineers. Lousy management. What happened is that you look at the farm that's been created with all those different animals that are going in different directions, and it doesn't add up. The total is less than the sum of the parts." -- Steve Jobs discusses Apple's previous lack of focus at WWDC 1997.
