As a kid, there was many a night when I cried myself to sleep, terrified about the infinite expanse of the universe.

The idea of infinity was intimately tangled with the idea of death, of course, and nothing conjured late-night Lovecraftian terrors like imagining that there was no beginning and no end of time — unlike my own limited lifespan, and that of my parents and siblings (whose deaths terrified me even more).

Not to get all heavy on you, but those childhood fears are instantly evoked whenever I look at pictures of far-off galaxies.

Today’s top post is a hands-on review of a tiny telescope that can capture such images. Perusing some sample astrophotography pictures on Reddit, this thing is like having your own personal Hubble Space Telescope.

Seriously, it’s been a while since a review introduced me to a product I had no idea about and made me want to go out and buy it immediately. This thing looks great — and it even works in light-polluted areas like San Francisco.

Also in today’s newsletter:

  • Talking of the grave, your trusty old Intel Mac is heading to the cemetery as soon as this summer.

  • I’m not sure how I feel about this. The Vision Pro headset offers amazing media experiences like no other — but it’s also isolating, and there’s no killer app. On the one hand, I’m sad it’s also headed to the graveyard (jeez, dark day). On the other, I haven’t picked up mine in months.

  • 🔥 DEAL OF THE DAY: I’ve been waiting for a sale on these highly rated Soundcore Space One Pro headphones. They rival Apple’s AirPods Max, we reckon (here’s our review), but are a lot cheaper — and this refurb offer makes them a superb deal.

  • My son got into Formula 1 in a big way after watching the Netflix special, and it looks like this weekend’s Apple TV coverage of the race in Miami is going to be something special.

  • Talking of Netflix, the new mobile app looks well worth checking out, especially the new vertical-video Clips feature, which is designed to help with content discovery. Then again, I despise Netflix’s auto-trailer feature.

  • This looks like a really good deal — a touchscreen deadbolt from a known brand for less than $70. We replaced all our locks with similar deadbolts years ago, and they’ve been great.

A message from Masterworks

Investors see ANOTHER return from Masterworks (!!!!)

That’s 5 sales in 4 months. 28 all time. And the performance?

14.6%, 17.6%, and 17.8%, net annualized returns on sold works held longer than one year (See all 28 at Masterworks.com).

It’s not from stocks, private equity, or real estate… it’s from contemporary and post war art. Crazy, right?

With Masterworks, you don’t need to be a BILLIONAIRE to invest in multi-million dollar art anymore.

Historically, the segment overall has had attractive appreciation and low correlation to stocks.*

Masterworks targets works featuring legends like Banksy, Basquiat, and Picasso, identifying what they believe to have significant long-term appreciation potential, not just at the artist level but at the level of individual artworks.

As one of the largest players in the art market, with $1.3 billion invested over 500 artworks, they pass critical advantages through to their 70,000+ members to add art to their portfolios strategically.

One more thing ...

I love to go to the DVD section of Amazon and see what DVDs are selling. I like it especially when Disney’s are at the top.
