Glucose monitoring breakthrough

Plus: Why Apple Watch might be banned in US.

Apple has secretly been working on blood glucose monitoring for more than 12 years. Steve Jobs reportedly initiated the project after his own health struggles.

The project recently made some major leaps forward, and may be coming to Apple Watch in the near-ish future.

I couldn’t be more excited; it’s the number one feature I’d like to see in the Apple Watch. It’s being hailed as potentially a major breakthrough for diabetics, but I think it’s a technology that would benefit everyone.

Imagine getting a blood-sugar spike alert after eating something you thought was healthy, like yogurt, starchy potatoes or white rice.

It has the potential to change the diet of millions of people by showing how what you eat and drink affects your blood chemistry. I’d buy that in a heartbeat.

One more thing...

The reason I went back to Apple is that I feel like the world would be a better place with Apple in it than not. And it's hard to imagine the world without Apple now.

— Steve Jobs, 2010.
