Get ready for digital IDs

It won't be long before you leave your keys and your wallet at home when you leave the house.

Apple today added the first digital IDs to the Wallet app, allowing Arizona residents to breeze through the TSA security checkpoint at participating airports.

It's the first application for now, but several other states are joining the initiative. Where and how you can use these digital IDs inevitably will expand.

Apple also just announced that several new cars from Kia and Genesis can be unlocked with your iPhone or Apple Watch.

For someone who constantly forgets their keys and wallet -- but never my iPhone -- this march to digitization can't happen soon enough.

Cupertino announced the Wallet upgrade at WWDC last June, but this is the first time it has been made available to iPhone users. Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, Ohio and Puerto Rico also plan to support the digital ID initiative.

In 2020, Apple launched Car Keys as part of CarPlay in iOS for use with a range of BMW models, allowing owners to use their iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock their car. But soon owners of certain Kia and Genesis models will be able to do the same.

Complaints posted online claim the recently released iPad Air 5 is so flimsy it makes a creaking noise when pressed. But this is certainly not a cut-and-dried situation, because other iPad Air 5 users don’t have the problem.

This would reduce the amount of display space the front-facing sensors require. Who needs a notch anyway?
