Finally!
Our long national nightmare is over: iOS 18.2 is out!
If you’ve been waiting patiently for iOS 18.2 — a major update that brings a second wave of AI features to your Apple devices — you can rejoice! The wait is over.
Apple finally released iOS 18.2 today, alongside updates to its other major platforms.
Just head over to Settings on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV or Vision Pro headset. Find General, then Software Update, and sit back while Apple’s usually seamless update process whirls its gears.
I’ve been using iOS 18.2 in beta, and have had a lot of fun playing around with Image Playground, Genmoji and Visual Intelligence.
At the moment, only Visual Intelligence is likely to become something I use regularly, but I dunno, maybe Genmoji will, too. Plus, it was fun sharing AI images I made of my family. And I haven’t even really begun editing snaps with the new Clean Up tool.
There’s lots to explore. Here’s a quick guide to updating all your devices, and what to expect next.

Apple just named the 2024 App Store Award winners. The list always showcases interesting apps to check out.
Face ID is by far my favorite authentication system, and Apple’s lame excuse for why it isn’t yet in Macs no longer passes the smell test.
This is interesting: Grammy award-winning singers used a new feature in the iPhone’s humble Voice Notes app to record vocals for a track!
The Apple Studio Display is a very nice monitor, and it just hit its lowest-ever price.
Today’s featured setup is an impressive mix of old and new Apple gear for just $2,500.

apple intelligence notification summaries need to chill.
my ring doorbell detected 5-10 people at the door over the course of the day and the apple summary got me thinking there was an angry mob outside my house

One more thing ...
I know what it's like to have your private life painted in the worst possible light in front of a lot of people. I've learned what it's like for everyone you meet after that to sort of have preconceptions about you.… It's been a character-building experience.
