Yesterday, while watching the WWDC26 keynote, I vowed to myself that I would not install the iOS 27 developer beta on my iPhone.
It’s just too risky, and every single year for the last decade or more, I’ve been burned.
This morning, I installed it — and I put watchOS 27 on my Apple Watch, too.
So far, so good. The betas seem very stable.
However, my experience in the past is that initial betas are often pretty good. The trouble starts with the subsequent releases, when I suddenly find myself unable to launch a critical app and my iPhone battery drains in three hours.
But this year is different! (I say that every year.)
But really, yes, thanks to Siri AI and Apple Intelligence, this year it really is worth the risk.
Should you do it, too? I would never counsel anyone to risk their device with dodgy, unstable software, but come on — you gotta get on that Siri AI waitlist before the great unwashed masses.
So yes — do it! Here’s how to hop on the beta train.

Apple is in an interesting pickle with Siri AI and the EU.
Maintenance updates like iOS 27 can be a bit boring, but my goodness, look at this list of stuff that users have been complaining about forever.
Talking of, why did this take so long?
I was surprised at how much time Apple spent talking about parental controls yesterday. As a hippy-dippy parent myself who preferred to educate my kids about online safety rather than walling them off, I kinda tuned out a bit, tbh. But the risks have multiplied since my kids were little, and the dangers of too much screen time are very real. So I’ve changed my tune: There’s some good stuff here.

One more thing ...
There falls a shadow, as T. S. Eliot noted, between the conception and the creation. In the annals of innovation, new ideas are only part of the equation. Execution is just as important.
