Cooking with Vision Pro

What it's really like using Apple headset in the kitchen.

Some of the first viral videos for the Apple Vision Pro showed the headset being used for cooking.

They showed how you can pin timers above the stove. Or follow Gordon Ramsay videos as you whip up a meal. The headset even protects your eyes from onion fumes!

In a video that clocked millions of views, The Wall Street Journal’s tech reviewer Joanna Stern called Vision Pro “the ultimate cooking computer.”

So we tried it ourselves. Here’s what we found when we tried to use Vision Pro for cooking.

(If new features are more your jam, here’s how to enable Vision Pro beta software updates to try out the latest and greatest.)

  • Thanks to Apple opening up the Messages app to Android by adopting RCS, the EU won’t force further changes, like compatibility with WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, WeChat, etc.

  • A lot of keyboard enthusiasts love mechanical keyboards for the sound and feel; we hands-on review a compact one from Satechi, and find there’s a lot to like.

  • More and more people are going “nearly nude” with the latest iPhones. This partial case allows you to dip your toe in the nudist camp without stripping off entirely.

  • Like Cult of Mac managing editor Lewis Wallace — who’s going nearly nude with his iPhone 15 Pro Max — I’ve also ditched cases. For the first time ever, I don’t have a case on my iPhone 15 Pro. So far, it’s been fine. Have you ditched cases also? Take the poll below.

  • Speidel’s soft silicone bands for Apple Watch are great, and they’re just $6 from the Cult of Mac Store.

When I realized that I was smarter than my parents, I felt tremendous shame for having thought that.
