It’s curtains for your wallet.

Apple just introduced a new kind of digital ID for iPhone and Apple Watch users that is almost — but not quite — a replacement for your physical passport.

Apple’s new Digital ID is based on your passport and can be presented to TSA agents for domestic travel at some U.S. airports. But right now, it can’t be used to cross borders.

It’s a big deal because your passport is the last stubborn obstacle to a fully digital wallet.

Apple already digitized payment cards, loyalty cards, person-to-person payments, tickets, passes and more. The last step is digitizing IDs, and Apple’s move lays the groundwork for actual digital IDs that will work globally.

Say goodbye to that unsightly bulge in your pocket.

One more thing ...

It's really hard to design products by focus groups. A lot of times, people don't know what they want until you show it to them.
