I don’t know why, but I have a long-running aversion to keys.

Actually, I do know why — a keychain, even a small one, is incredibly annoying.

They’re often bulky and fiddly to use. Plus, you’re always losing the bloody thing.

For years now, I’ve been trying to minimize the keys in my life.

I made big progress with the house keys. We replaced most of the locks in our house with keypads (which come with their own annoyances, tbh). Same with the garage key.

But there are two keys I can’t get rid of, no matter how hard I try: the key to my bike lock and my car key.

The bike lock key’s going nowhere, but it looks like the car key is headed for the great junk drawer in the sky (if I buy a new car, that is).

After years of languishing, iPhone car keys appear to be ready for their moment in the spotlight. They’re about to go mainstream — and here is why.
