Blood glucose monitoring?
Leaked Apple Watch prototype shows mysterious new sensor.
Of all the health sensors I’d like to see in an Apple Watch, top of my list is blood glucose monitoring.
Actually, perhaps a cancer detector would be better, but that’s not realistic.
Blood glucose monitoring is ostensibly for diabetics, but I think it has obvious universal appeal. It would allow me to see the effects of my terrible diet, practically in real time.
Why am I getting a sugar spike after eating some “healthy” yogurt? Oh, because it’s full of added sugar.
What about those mashed potatoes? Potatoes are healthy, right? Not according to my Apple Watch, which shows my blood sugar going through the roof.
I suspect that the ability to track my blood chemistry would have a dramatic effect on my nonexistent willpower. If I could see how I was poisoning myself, perhaps I wouldn’t eat half a pound of Belgian chocolate in a sitting.
Apple has been working on adding blood sugar monitoring to Apple Watch for many years, and Tim Cook even admitted publicly he was (or even still is) wearing a prototype.

If you own a pair of AirPods Max, you just got a sweet upgrade. They now support low-latency audio (great for gaming) and lossless audio, for those deep audiophile listening sessions in a darkened, soundproof room.

I’ve been testing this portable CarPlay screen for a review that I might finish before 2030 if I get my butt in gear. Meantime, it’s been great — there’s no easier way to add CarPlay to an older vehicle — and it’s on sale.
In perhaps the biggest news of the day (at least based on Cult of Mac’s website visitor stats), the Delta iOS game emulator added live online multiplayer functionality to Nintendo DS games.
When I go weekend cycling, the number of gadgets I take with me is getting ridiculous — battery-powered lights, helmet, cycle computer, radar, dashcams, etc. — so this over-the-top 10-port charger looks perfect for me.
Today is Apple’s 49th birthday! The company was founded on April 1, 1976. Happy birthday, Apple! 😘🎉🎂

One more thing ...
We have an environment where excellence is really expected. What's really great is to be open when [the work] is not great. My best contribution is not settling for anything but really good stuff, in all the details. That's my job — to make sure everything is great.
