Best Prime Day deals

We rounded up some great Apple-related bargains.

If you drive a junky old car like I do, the cheapest and easiest way to add Apple’s CarPlay to the vehicle is with an Amazon Fire tablet and a plug-in CarPlay adapter.

And as luck would have it, these items are on sale this week thanks to Amazon’s annual Prime Day sale bonanza.

If CarPlay isn’t of interest, we also rounded up some of the best Apple-related Prime Day deals, including Beats headphones, AirPods, iPads, the cheapest-ever MacBook Air and more.

Also in today’s newsletter:

  • In an unusual move, Apple recalled its latest iOS and macOS security updates, which were released just yesterday. The reason remains unclear.

  • Instead of spending $200,000 or more on a marketing degree, sign up for the Growth Daily newsletter instead.

  • We’ve hands-on tested a couple of cool new products: A beefy powerstation from Mophie and a clever folding iPad case from SwitchEasy. We like both of them.

  • No one — and I repeat no one — should be without Microsoft Office for Mac. It’s not the most fun software to use, but it is essential, and it’s on sale for just a few more days at less than $30 (along with training on how to use Word, Excel and the rest of the apps in the software suite).

  • And woah! Cult of Mac readers overwhelmingly want Apple to return to skeuomorphic design — see results of yesterday’s poll below.

One more thing ...

I think you still have to think differently to buy an Apple computer. The people who buy them do think different. They are the creative spirits in this world, and they’re out to change the world. We make tools for those kinds of people.

— Steve Jobs, 2008.
