Apple Watch rumors

New models might come with a big downside.

It’s good news, bad news for the Apple Watches expected to be announced next week.

On the good news front, the Apple Watch Series 10 — a redesign to celebrate the wearable’s upcoming 10th birthday — sounds great.

The screen will be boosted to Apple Watch Ultra size (49mm) while it also gets a thinner body.

Sounds great to me. I have an older Apple Watch Ultra and love the big screen size but rarely use a bunch of its advanced features, like the diving stuff. A thinner, cheaper Series 10 would suit me just fine.

But the device’s big introduction at the “It’s Glowtime” event next week looks to be marred by the patent-infringement lawsuit surrounding the Apple Watch's blood oxygen sensor.

The suit remains unresolved, which means any built-in blood oxygen sensors are likely to be disabled for U.S. buyers.

This is not just a major inconvenience, it threatens to derail features like sleep apnea detection, which likely relies on blood O2 readings to work.

So come on, Tim Cook! Resolve this mess already and fix the Apple Watch. Meanwhile, here’s what to expect next week.
