Apple Watch goes pro

Surf's officially up for Apple's smartwatch.

For the first time, Apple Watch just became official equipment for a pro sport.

The World Surf League adopted Apple Watch as its official wearable. The smartwatch will use the WSL Surfer app to sync with the competition's scoring system, offering surfers details about scores, heat timing and wave priority.

It'll be used in the upcoming 2023 Championship Tour, which kicks off in January with the Billabong Pro Pipeline.

As someone online joked, it'll also help locate someone's arm when it gets bitten off by a shark.

The move enables pro surfers to use the water-resistant smartwatch with a certain app to track crucial metrics during competitions. This marks the first time Apple Watch has become official equipment for a pro sport.

"See, one of the things you have to remember is that we started off with a very idealistic perspective -- that doing something with the highest quality, doing it right the first time, would really be cheaper than having to go back and do it again."
