Apple Wallet’s digital IDs about to get TSA-friendly
Air travel is often a horrible nightmare, but one small step is about to get a bit easier.
The Transportation Security Administration is about to start testing mobile driver's licenses in Apple Wallet.
If you live in one of the handful of states that recognize them, your digital driver's license will soon serve as your ID, instead of your physical driver's license. And all it will need is a simple scan from an NFC reader or QR scanner, quickening and automating the whole process.
Although it's a small step, it's an important one toward the full digitization of IDs like driver's licenses, and I'm all for it.
After all, it's ridiculous that you can scan your ID at the grocery checkout to buy a six-pack, but you still have to whip out your physical ID at the airport.

The Transportation Security Administration confirms that it will start accepting Apple Wallet’s new digital IDs early next year. It looks set to be the first agency to support the new feature, which Apple announced in June.
