Apple sends invites to Oct. 18 ‘Unleashed’ event

It’s official: There is another Apple event this fall, and it’s going to be held next Monday at 10 a.m. PDT.

The likely star of the show? New MacBook Pro models.

The event's name is “Unleashed,” and the invite features a hyperspace motif, as if something is going into warp drive (perhaps it's the new Pros' sure-to-be-super-fast Apple Silicon?)

The only odd thing is that the event falls on a Monday. Apple usually holds these media events on a Tuesday. But Google already booked Tuesday for its fall Pixel phones unveiling, so best guess is Apple is getting out front of its rival.

Who's excited?

The streaming event almost certainly will bring the debut of redesigned MacBooks and perhaps an iMac running an updated Apple processor. Cupertino could squeeze some other new products onto the agenda as well.

Concealed in Tuesday’s invite to the October event is an augmented reality Easter egg. It’s a bonus to make the invite seem cool, and perhaps get Mac fans excited about what’s coming.

As announced at WWDC earlier this year, Siri voice support has come to the Ecobee SmartThermostat with Voice Control — the first hardware not made by Apple to get it, with many others to follow.

Apple's awesome new MacBook Air with M1 chip is now more affordable than ever before, with up to $149.01 off the usual price on Amazon.

I think most of us can agree that iPhone is long overdue a USB-C upgrade. But despite bringing the technology to Mac and iPad years ago, Apple seems reluctant to ditch Lightning for its smartphones. So, someone else did.

Apple is developing its own “Nintendo Switch style gaming console” with a hybrid design that “will outperform anything that Microsoft or Sony offers in 2021,” according to one very sketchy report citing unnamed sources.

If you’re looking to save a few bucks on true wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation, you could certainly do worse than the recently released EarFun Air Pro 2 ANC Wireless Earbuds. They deliver quality sound and a solid feature set for $79.99.

Apple says its macOS notebooks can only use one external display, but users found a workaround. And Hyper built this workaround into its latest accessories.

"I can tell you this: I've been married for eight years, and that's had a really good influence on me. I've been very lucky -- through random happenstance I just happened to sit next to this wonderful woman who became my wife. And it was a big deal. We have three kids, and it's been a big deal. You see the world differently." -- Steve Jobs
