Apple's October surprise!
Cupertino's October event is on ... with a twist!
After a lot of “will they, won’t they?” uncertainty, Apple this morning confirmed there will be a traditional October event after all.
But there’s a twist.
This time around, it won’t be a single event.
It’ll be a week long of them!
Buckle up for a whole week of announcements.

The new beta of iOS 18.2 is chock full of big, brawny new features, not least a ton of new Apple Intelligence stuff. Here are all the changes.
With new M4 Macs just around the corner, now’s a good time to save big on older M3 or M2 MacBook Airs. Amazon has various MacBook Air configs on sale, with up to $300 off the M2 MacBook Air. (The M4 MacBook Air is expected early next year, btw).
I like haptic keyboards, but tbh, I completely forgot iPhone has a great one that’s off by default. Here’s how to enable it.
LightPDF is a PDF editor that offers countless PDF-editing features, OCR tech, and AI-powered summaries — and it’s half the cost of an annual subscription to Adobe’s tools.
We have a couple of hands-on reviews today. First up is a premium Mujjo iPhone case that shows what Apple should have down with its disastrous FineWoven material; And number two is a review of a genuine leather iPad sleeve from Woolnut. It ain’t cheap, but it’s oh so very nice.

Visual Intelligence on the iPhone 16 is cool but nascent. It's essentially three things: summarize what you are looking at via Apple Intelligence, analyze it via ChatGPT, or do a reverse image search on Google. It's basically the main Humane AI Pin feature as a button.

One more thing ...
The culture at NeXT definitely rewards independent thought, and we often have constructive disagreements--at all levels. It doesn't take a new person long to see that people feel fine about openly disagreeing with me. That doesn't mean I can't disagree with them, but it does mean that the best ideas win. Our attitude is that we want the best. Don't get hung up on who owns the idea. Pick the best one, and let's go.
