Apple pays tribute to Steve Jobs
Ten years after Steve Jobs' death, it's clear that Apple has lost some things without him, but has also gained.
Apple lost his vision, of course, as well as his magnetic charisma and drive. Keynotes just aren't the same without him. But are they worse?
I thoroughly enjoyed last month's iPhone 13 event. It really benefited from all the prerecorded video bits, which Jobs disdained, as well as the varied roster of presenters. Would it have been any better with Jobs as the sole MC?
And take Apple's astonishing financial performance under Tim Cook. The company today is six times the size it was when Jobs died. It's the first $2 trillion company, and the stock has soared. Cook has done a masterful job of expanding Apple globally while developing smash-hit products like Apple Watch and cash cows like the new services business.
Would Jobs have pushed services as hard? Maybe not. Jobs was a hardware guy. And if not, would Apple under Jobs be as big as it is under Cook? It's an interesting question, and worth pondering.

Ten years after Steve Jobs’ death on this day in 2011, Apple is thriving when many predicted it wouldn’t. Apple’s success has many fathers, of course, but one big one is that Jobs’ personality has been deeply embedded into the company and how it does things.
In a memo to all employees about his former boss and friend, Cook says Jobs’ passion to change the world for the better thrives in Cupertino.
Although he died 10 years ago today, the Apple co-founder lives on as a way to criticize the company's current management. In some people's memories, Jobs did no wrong. But in reality, he made plenty of mistakes. Here are some of his worst foul-ups.

"Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don't lose faith. I'm convinced that the only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You've got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.
Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don't settle." -- Steve Jobs
