Why Apple ain't doing a folding iPhone any time soon
Samsung just released new versions of its flagship folding phones.
Friends of mine have older versions that I've played around with -- both the Galaxy Z Flip phone (which resembles an old Motorola Razr, but chunkier) and the Galaxy Z Fold, which folds out to about the size of an iPad mini.
And while I was generally impressed with the quality of the hardware, and the cleverness of the folding designs, I'd never in a million years buy either one.
Why not?
Two reasons: The folding screens are plasticky and have a noticeable crease where they bend. It bugged me to see the otherwise big, bright screen bifurcated by a bumpy seam.
And then there's the general bulkiness of the designs. When folded closed, both these devices are chonky bois.
Oh, actually, there's a third reason I wouldn't buy one: They run Android.

The just-announced Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 are the clearest evidence that Apple is correct to hold off on releasing a folding iPhone. Flexible screens still come with too many problems to be acceptable in an iPhone. Of course, that hasn’t stopped Samsung from releasing handsets despite these drawbacks.
The successor to the much-liked Momentum 3 aims for the same high-end sound and comfort, along with a more modern look. The cans also claim an impressive battery life of up to 60 hours.

On August 10, 2008, developer Armin Heinrich called his pointless app a work of art and a commentary on App Store pricing. Shockingly, eight people bought the $1,000 app.
We’ve seen a few computer setups lately where the owner switches from one or more large monitors to something smaller. But they don’t necessarily see losing the screen real estate as a “downgrade.” That’s the case with today’s featured M1 Pro MacBook-centered setup. It went from a 34-inch ultra-wide 4K monitor to a new 27-inch Studio Display. Essentially it boils down to “size isn’t everything.” When it comes to displays, there’s actually a lot more to the picture.
